CV Evangelos Avgoulas

Βαγγέλης Αυγουλάς

Evangelos Avgoulas was born in 1988 and raised in Ilion, where he currently lives. He is from Chania, Crete. He spent his early school life at the Center for Education and Rehabilitation for the Blind (CERB) in Kallithea and he finished Primary School at the 35th School of Piraeus, participating in the “Helios” Pilot Education Program for the integration of blind students into a regular school classroom. During his high school years, he distinguished himself, serving as the school’s flag attendant at the 11th High School of Ilion, and as flag carrier twice during school years 2005 and 2006, while a student of the 6th Unified Lyceum of Ilion, where he graduated from with an overall grade “Excellent”. After that, he topped the Greek national university entrance examinations and entered the Athens School of Law, granted a performance award by the State Scholarships Foundation in 2007, and received his Law degree with an 8.4/10 grade.

He currently works as a lawyer, maintaining his own office and practicing courtroom advocacy, while serving as a Regular Representative in Greece of the VIEWS International Organization for the visually impaired, a Deputy Secretary General of the Panhellenic Association for the Blind and a Secretary of the Youth Committee of the Panhellenic Association for the Blind.

At the same time, and by virtue of OGG Issue No. 137/23.03.2017, he has been appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors of the “Seaman’s Home” (Oikos Naftou) Public Law Entity, a body responsible for the insurance and social benefits of active and retired seafarers and their families.

He also serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the Hellenic Agency for Local Development and Local Government (EETAA) since 11/03/2016.

He is currently completing his post-graduate studies in Civil Law at the Athens School of Law. From February 2015 until the calling of elections on the 20th of September of the same year, he worked as a Research Associate for the Minister of Health, Mr.  Panagiotis Kouroumplis, a position he also maintained during the term of the temporary government presided by Ms. Thanou. Furthermore, from September 2015 until November 2016, he worked in the Ministry of Interior and Administrative Reform, again as a Research Associate of the Minister of Interior and Administrative Reform, Mr. Panagiotis Kouroumplis. In his capacity as a legal advisor, he was responsible for important aspects of social policy and legislature.

At the same time, he has been serving as a Member of the Accessibility Committee for Students with Disabilities of the University of Athens since its establishment, and a Vice President of the “Tyrtaeus” Athletic County Association of Disabled, whereas in January 2015 he was appointed as a member of the Health and Social Welfare Committee of the Central Union of Municipalities of Greece (KEDE) by virtue of a decision taken by the BoD of KEDE.

Moreover, Evangelos organizes many social and charity events for raising awareness throughout Greece; he speaks English and French, he has published over 1,000 articles in hard-copy and online media in Greece and abroad, and he regularly writes articles on various matters relating to education, politics, society and other issues on his personal blog (http://meallamatia.blogspot.com/ ), whereas he is one of the writers of the first Crowdsourced Online Novel in Greece titled “Twelve”, published in 2010 by “Empiria” Publications.

In 2013 and 2014, he was a radio producer and executive of the www.thisisradio.gr Internet Radio Station.

Since 2012 and until today he has been serving as an elected Regular Conventioneer of the National Confederation of Persons with Disabilities and a member of the General Council of the National Federation of the Blind. In 2014 and 2015 he served as a Deputy Organizational Secretary of the Federation.

In 2010 he was elected as a Councilman for the Municipality of Ilion, alongside Mayor Nikos Zenetos, and from 2011 until 2014 he served as Deputy Mayor for Social Policy, Life Learning, Transparency and E-Government, the youngest Deputy Mayor in Greece and the only disabled person in such a position in national level.

In the regional and local elections of May 2014 he was re-elected as Councilman, winning the most preference votes (1891 votes), and he has been an independent Councilman of the Municipality of Ilion since 30/04/2015.

From September 2014 until June 2015, he served as the Chairman of the “Phaethon” Intermunicipal Center for the Prevention of Addictions and the Promotion of Psychosocial Health. Since September 2014, he has been an appointed representative of the Municipality of Ilion in the school councils of the Special Primary School and the Special High School and Lyceum of Ilion by virtue of a unanimous decision of the City Council of Ilion.

For 11 years he has been visiting schools of every level throughout Greece, on his own expenses, on a campaign to make students more familiar with the concept of disability, whereas, for the same purpose, since 2014 he has been a collaborator of the Association of Social Responsibility for Children and Youth (SKEP).
